NHIDA Branch – August 2016 President’s Message
Advocate, educate, and disseminate — that’s what NHIDA is all about. This year our branch has been working actively and aggressively in each of those areas.
Thanks to the efforts of a dedicated group of legislators, spurred on by the advocacy of Decoding Dyslexia NH with the support of an equally dedicated cadre of individuals and organizations, HB1644 was signed into law on June 16, 2016 by Governor Maggie Hassan.
OSEP 2015 – Letter Clarify the Use of the Term Dyslexia in Evaluations, Eligibility Determinations or IEP Documents
letter is to clarify that there is nothing in the IDEA that would prohibit the use of the terms dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia in IDEA evaluation, eligibility determinations, or IEP documents.
OSEP 2016 – Letter Clarifying the use of RTI with Preschoolers
It has been brought to the attention of the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) that some local educational agencies (LEAs) may be using Response to Intervention (RTI) strategies to delay or deny a timely initial evaluation for preschool children suspected of having a disability.
